Anyone in the world

"Cus would repeat over and over to Mike from the beginning, ‘Do you know you're going to be heavyweight champion of the world someday?’" said Nadia Hujtyn, a boxing coach and assistant to D’Amato. "If you say it enough times, you believe it. And if you believe it, then you'll have no doubt."

I was only 14, but I was a true believer in Cus’s philosophy. Always training, thinking like a Roman gladiator, being in a perpetual state of war in your mind, yet on the outside seeming calm and relaxed.

Hulu released the first two episodes of "Mike" on August 25 and the remaining six will be made available on the following six Thursdays. Episode 1, "Thief," and Episode 2, "Monster," focus on his childhood, early arrests for street crimes, and the beginning of his boxing career. Tyson is portrayed as an underconfident and overweight kid who gets his first taste of violence when a neighborhood bully beheads one of his beloved pigeons in front of him. The young Tyson bloodies the bully's face with a flurry of punches before the scene cuts to his 1988 win over Leon Spinks, then back to the young Tyson kneeling over the fallen bully. In a voiceover, he says, "That's when things started to change."

Directed by Tiffany Johnson, the fifth episode of the eight-part series, "Desiree," dramatizes Washington’s encounters with Tyson, as well as the latter’s criminal trial, drawing from news reports, public records and court transcripts. While the other installments use Tyson’s one-man show, "mike tyson quote about life Tyson: Undisputed Truth," to make their iteration of the boxer — played by Trevante Rhodes — speak directly to the audience, the creative team felt it was imperative to recount the rape case from the point of view of his victim, whose decision to come forward in the early 1990s was largely met with vitriol and backlash.

So we’re walking through the streets holding our guns, and nobody runs up on us, no cops are around to stop us. We didn’t even have a bag to put the big rifle in, so we just took turns carrying it every few blocks.

In his prime, the 5-foot-10 Tyson generally competed at just under 220 pounds. His day-to-day weight became much higher after retirement. He revealed in November 2020 he had lost around 100 pounds, thanks to a new vegan diet and a lot of time on a treadmill, ahead of an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr.

When Witherspoon was knocked out in one round by James Smith in his next fight, he was simply relieved that King was out of his life. A couple of weeks later, he was served with an eviction notice after failing to pay rent.

Following his undisputed championship win, Tyson’s troubles grew. He left his manager Bill Cayton and fired longtime trainer Kevin Rooney, who helped build his career following D’amato’s death. The issues he faced in his personal Life affected him in reality as he couldn’t train well.

"If I don't have a wife, I'll kill myself. That's real talk. I need somebody to listen to, I'm just that person," he said, calling himself a "soldier," possibly referencing his need for direction. "That's why I got married three times, 'cos I can't live without a wife."

Some people might read some of the things I’m talking about and judge me as an adult, call me a criminal, but I did these things over 35 years ago. I was a little kid looking for love and acceptance, and the streets were where I found it. It was the only education I had, and these guys were my teachers.

In season three Tyson and the team are back and ready to (attempt to) solve more mysteries! Highlights include: a retelling of the team’s Very First Mystery! A Mystery so complicated that Mike gives up! A trip to the car wash! Dinner at a neighbor’s house! …And those are just the highlights!

Boy, was THIS episode slow as fuck. Most of it was at this dinner party that had dialogue, save for some funny one-liners, bore me to tears. I was kinda looking forward to seeing this one go a bit more in-depth into Yung’s mother, but we really don’t get there. Norm’s "Pigeon" nearly saves it with his gags, but alas it wasn’t enough.

Struggling financially, the Tyson family moved to Brownsville, a Brooklyn neighborhood known for its high crime. Small and shy, Tyson was often the target of bullying. To combat this, he began developing his own style of street fighting, which ultimately transitioned into criminal activity. His gang, known as the Jolly Stompers, assigned him to clean out cash registers while older members held victims at gunpoint. He was only 11 years old at the time.

a man who is both relatable in his humanity and defiantly unique at the same time. He is a performer who is also facing his own emotional opponent in that spotlight. He is learning to love and be loved in return right in front of our eyes.

The show follows the fictional misadventures of boxer/actor Mike Tyson, the ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry, Tyson's adopted daughter, and a talking pigeon, as they solve mysteries around the world. The style of the show borrows heavily from the 1983–86 Ruby-Spears produced Mister T, featuring actor/wrestler Laurence Tureaud as himself as well as 1970s Hanna-Barbera productions such as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and The Funky Phantom. Targeted at a much older demographic than those children-oriented cartoons, the show contains adult language and concepts in the manner of Family Guy, South Park, and many other Adult Swim shows. While each episode involves a mystery as a framing device, they are often ignored entirely while the plot takes a completely different (and often oddball) direction as the mysteries are rarely solved and episodes sometimes end on cliffhangers that are never resolved.coast-mountain-brewing-logo.png
