Έτσι, τους επόμενους μήνες, στα Τρίκαλα θα διεξαχθεί σχετική επιστημονική έρευνα, από το ΤΕΦΑΑ σε συνεργασία με το Εργαστήριο Περιβαλλοντικής Φυσιολογίας του Ινστιτούτου έρευνας και τεχνολογίας Θεσσαλίας και το Πανεπιστήμιο του Wolverhampton από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Επικεφαλής της επιστημονικής ομάδας είναι ο καθηγητής Γιάννης Κουτεντάκης, ο αναπληρωτής καθηγητής Αθανάσιος Τζιαμούρτας και ο Δρ. Ανδρέας Φλουρής. Στην έρευνα συμμετέχουν και οι υποψήφιοι Διδάκτορες Angelica Valente και Πέτρος Ντίνας.
Όπως εξηγεί στο ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ ο κ. Φλουρής, πολλοί επιστήμονες ψάχνουν να βρουν τρόπους να αυξήσουν τη δραστηριότητα του καφέ λίπους έτσι ώστε μπορέσουν να αυξήσουν το μεταβολισμό ανθρώπων με υπερβολικό σωματικό βάρος. Μόλις τον προηγούμενο χρόνο, διευκρινίζει ο κ. Φλουρής, προτάθηκε από ομάδα ερευνητών του πανεπιστημίου Harvard ότι η άσκηση ίσως μπορεί να μετατρέψει το λευκό λίπος σε καφέ, χωρίς όμως αυτό να έχει επιβεβαιωθεί από ερευνητικά δεδομένα σε ανθρώπους.
Η μελέτη σκοπεύει να εξιχνιάσει αν διαφορετικοί τύποι άσκησης (π.χ. άσκηση αντοχής ή βάρη) μπορούν να μετατρέψουν μέρος του λευκού λίπους σε καφέ λίπος και να αυξήσουν το μεταβολισμό.
Η μελέτη πήρε την κωδική ονομασία «BATMAN» από τα αρχικά του «Brown Adipose Tissue of MAN», δηλαδή «ο φαιός λιπώδης ιστός του ανθρώπου». Στη μελέτη θα λάβουν μέρος περίπου 60 Τρικαλινοί, οι οποίοι ή θα γυμναστούν για δύο μήνες σε τρία γυμναστήρια της πόλης που ευγενικά θα παρέχουν τις εγκαταστάσεις τους αφιλοκερδώς για την διεξαγωγή της μελέτης.
Οι ερευνητές συλλέγουν από τους εθελοντές πληθώρα στοιχείων για το μεταβολισμό, το κεντρικό νευρικό σύστημα, τη φυσική κατάσταση και το λευκό και καφέ λίπος, σε όλη τη διάρκεια των 4 μηνών που διαρκεί η μελέτη. Τα πρώτα αποτελέσματα της μελέτης δείχνουν ότι η άσκηση οδηγεί σε σημαντική αύξηση του μεταβολισμού, η οποία οφείλεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό στη μετατ ροπή μέρους του λευκού λίπους σε καφέ.
Έτσι, η ερευνητική ομάδα του Δρα Φλουρή πιστεύει ότι μπορεί να επωφεληθεί της ιδιότητας του καφέ λίπους για να δημιουργήσει ένα πρόγραμμα άσκησης που θα στοχεύει στη μετατ ροπή μέρους του λευκού λίπους σε καφέ λίπος. Αυτό θα οδηγήσει στη μεγαλύτερη δυνατή αύξηση του μεταβολισμού και τη μείωση δημόσια υγείαυγεία. Πολλές από τις μελέτες μας, όπως αναφέρει ο Δρ. Φλουρής, έχουν δείξει ότι η συχνότητα της παχυσαρκίας στην Ελλάδα ολοένα και αυξάνεται «με αποτέλεσμα να είμαστε, δυστυχώς, ανάμεσα στους πρωταθλητές πλέον σε παγκόσμια κλίμακα».
